The main objective of THE BIG CHALLENGE is to promote English language learning in a fun, educational activity. In order for the event to be a success and create real motivation among students, it must rally as many participants as possible.

The contest is a questionnaire comprised of 54 multiple-choice questions. For each question, there are 4 possible answers. Students must tick the box corresponding to the correct answer. The 54 questions test the students’ knowledge of English vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and civilisation. Each class level has its own questionnaire which follows the curriculum outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

The questionnaire is strictly individual and must be completed without outside assistance of any kind (book, dictionary …). The session is supervised by a teacher or a member of the school staff who ensures the proper conduct of the contest.

Students participating in the contest will receive a questionnaire and an answer sheet. They must enter their surname, first name, date of birth, their class name and the BIG CHALLENGE code which is provided when the school registers for the contest. They then tick the box indicating class level. If any one of these elements is entered incorrectly, the student can be disqualified.
